SADC - Southern African Development Community

SADC Meeting of Experts (Lusaka, Zambia, 19-21 June 2000)

The annual SADC Senior Officials Meeting (also known as the
Meeting of Experts) is attended by the top decision-makers of Ministries, in the case of the HRD Sector, mainly Permanent Secretaries (also known as Principal Secretaries or Director-Generals) of the SADC Ministries of Education. The meeting provides input and recommendations to the Meeting of Ministers, which is usually held immediately after the Senior Officials Meeting.

This year’s meeting was attended by Representatives of most of the 14 SADC Member States (except Angola, DRC and Mauritius). The Meetings of Senior Officials usually cover many subjects and actions related to the implementation of the SADC Protocol on Education and Training (this document is available for download at the MINEDAF Document Service). The agenda for this year’s meeting was lengthy. Mr. M. Mbamba, Director, UNESCO Harare Office, UNESCO’s SADC Focal Point, was expected to attend the Lusaka Meeting together with the Executive Secretary, Intergovernmental Committee, MINEDAF VII, however, due to a security embargo on travel just before the recent Zimbabwe General Elections Mr. Mbamba had to cancel.
