Education
:

1970 : B.Sc. in Botany, Geography and Education from the University of Dar es Salaam, passed with Honours Upper Second Division

1972 : M.Sc. in Botany (Ecophysiology) from the University of Dar es Salaam. Worked on effect of water stress in plants especially in relation to harmone levels

1975 : Ph.D. in Botany (Ecophysiology) from the University of Wales (UK). Worked on the environmental control of endogenous ethylene levels


Scholarships

1971-1972: Awarded a German Academic Exchange Scholarship for M.Sc. studies

1972-1975: Awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship for Ph.D. studies in the United Kingdom

1975-1976: Six months awarded Inter-University Council Scholarship for post-doctoral training

1977-1978: Awarded an International Foundation for Science Grant for carrying research on Premature Abscision of Flower in Leguminous plants

1982-1983: Awarded a Fellowship by the Netherlands Government to work on the varietal differences in phaseolus vulgaris in response to water stress

1986: Awarded a six months fellowship by Atomic Energy Agency for the techniques used in studies of soil-plant water relationships, Vienna Austria 

1987 : Awarded six months fellowship by the Belgian Government to attend a training course in Eremology

1990 : Awarded a two-week UNESCO Fellowship to attend a Biotechnology Teacher Training Programme in Miami, U.S.A.
